Living Church is actively involved in supporting a children’s orphanage in the state of Mizoram, India. This involvement started about ten years ago when Pastor Chris first visited the region as part of a missions team led by Rev. John Downs from Australia. Today the orphanage is home to more than 30 children. The attached boarding school provides education to the orphans, local pupils, and boarders from all over the state. Both the school and the orphanage are expanding to cater for children above the age of 15.
Several members of the Living Church sponsor children at the orphanage. In 2005, Pastor Chris led a youth team of 11 people from 4 Scandinavian churces on a 3 week missions trip to Calcutta and Mizoram. During this trip the missions team visited many local churches and ministered through teaching, preaching and music. In Mizoram, the team spent time in the capital Aizawl and at the Audrene Scism Children’s Home in Kolasib. They brought to the orphanage goods donated from their local communities, and took part in teaching at the school. It was a tremendous blessing for the entire youth team to be part of this experience.
In October 2007, another team from Living Church will return to Calcutta and Mizoram for missions work. Pastor Chris will be preaching at various churches, especially in and around Calcutta. Others will be mainly spending time at the orphanage and the school. Again, many donated items will be brought over to distribute.
